Candidate Stand-in Commended for Impressive Campaign

One of the First District Congressional campaigns is receiving high marks, even in the absence of its candidate. Charlie Summers has been serving in Iraq. But his wife, Ruth Summers ,has become a popular surrogate in debates and on the campaign trail. Though she confesses to being a novice campaigner, Summers has been praised as an impressive and effective stand-in. The question is whether the absence of Naval Reserve Officer Charlie Summers from local bean suppers and candidate debates is a plus or minus for his Republican campaign. Keith McKeen reports.
